Age Related Macular Degeneration

Age related macular degeneration (ARMD) is one of the leading causes of visual loss in people over 60. Risk factors include race, genetics, and smoking history. It can show up as the “dry” form or the “wet” form, either of which can result in loss of central vision, making it hard to make out details when trying to see. The dry form of ARMD can usually be managed with regular examinations, visual monitoring, and use of specially formulated vitamins; however, the wet form may require specialized treatments. Whether you have the earliest form of ARMD (retinal deposits called “drusen”) or you have a more advanced form of the disease, we will work to make sure that your eyes receive optimal care. We will also discuss possible ways to minimize the risk and impact of future disease progression.
